Maintaining the balance of the pit while mining requires careful attention to the stability of the open pit mine slopes. Active open – pit mines are affected by multiple forces such as the gravity, rainfall, and stress due to excavation, which increases the likelihood of slope failure. Grids are placed on slopes to enhance soil and rock mass to reinforce the slope. The grid is made of high strength polyester which is a durable material, so a grid made out of it will interlock with the slope material which increases shear strength and resistance to sliding. This reinforcement is instrumental in improving the distribution of forces on the slope, which significantly decreases the chances of landslides while also ensuring mining operations and surrounding areas are safe. While performing these functions, the mine grid also prevents slope erosion which preserves the slope over time.
